3 Asian Hair Secrets My Mom Taught Me

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Pantene for MMI Agency. All opinions are 100% mine.

One of the questions I get asked on my channel a lot is how do you keep your hair so thick and long? Honestly, I used to be so self-conscious about the fullness. After having Kai and dealing with postpartum hair loss, I really started focusing on what I put in my body and on my hair to really nourish it. I can’t take all the credit for my routine; as they say “she got it from her mama”. My mom inspired a lot of self-care routine! Some of you may not know that I grew up in China, and much of my self-care routine has been inspired by my culture, too. As an Asian-American, I understand the hair struggle – finding the right products that are effective for my hair type - I know many of you can relate. Today, my mom is spilling three Asian hair secrets and I am so excited to share them with you!

For as long as I can remember, my mom had beautiful, long, shiny hair that she never colored or treated with heat. It was always as straight as an arrow, crazy thick and oh, so healthy. She recently cut it into a bob, but most of her life, it’s been long, past her waist. Growing up in China, I remember seeing the Pantene commercials in the 90s where they would drop a comb onto the models’ hair, and it would fall through her thick, shiny stands. I have always associated that with the ideal hair health. Fast forward 30 years, my mom is still using Pantene and these 3 tips to grow thick, long hair!
Focus on the Scalp
My mom has told me forever that healthy hair starts at the scalp. A thorough brushing twice a day is key. Morning and night, massage your hair gently from scalp to ends. Mom says it helps to generate new growth and distribute the oils from your scalp. A scalp massage every week is also encouraged! It helps get the blood flowing and the follicles healthy.
2. Egg Mask
When we lived in China, the weather was cold and often snowy in the winter. My mom would whisk together eggs to massage into her hair to help with the moisture and thickness. Think of it as an at home protein hair mask!
3. You are What you Eat!
What you put into your body matters! Especially for hair health. My mom believes it all starts with nutrition and specifically vitamin C and protein. Vitamin C is great for dandruff and scalp health. Because hair is made up of mostly protein, she believes eating proteins helps it stay strong!

I am so excited to pass these selfcare tips down to Kai and Bodhi! I have a trick of my own for thicker hair with lots of volume! My biggest challenge is to keep volume without it looking oily. I need a hair thickening shampoo that gently lifts the oils and makes my hair weightless with lots of body. Alas, in walks the new Pantene Nutrient Blends Collection! It is inspired by ingredients from cultures around the world. The Hair Volume Multiplier Collection with Bamboo is perfect for thin, flat, Asian hair. As a bonus, this collection is free of silicones, parabens, dye and mineral oil. The Vitamin-B-rich Bamboo is extracted from bamboo shoots grown in Fujian Province in China. It’s my hair thickener secret! If you could use a little extra body and vibrant volume too, check out the best volumizing shampoo and conditioners via the Pantene Nutrient Blends Collection. Try it for yourself here!
