Fall Transition Pieces – Unexpected Finds for a Capsule Wardrobe

I am such a summer person, when fall finally rolls around in Houston, I tend to get caught off guard! Suddenly, a cold-front blows in and I find myself reaching for 10-year-old sweater shirts and saying, “I have nothing to wear”. This year, I am finally prepared and in the most fashionable way! You guys know I have been using Stitch Fix since March. From weddings to vacations, I have found some of my favorite closet staples and stand out pieces from working closely with my Stitch Fix Stylist. I always tell everyone, it’s a process and the more you communicate with your stylist, the more you are going to get out of your fix!

Here are 3 tips on how to find unexpected fall transition pieces:

1.     Know your closet and be honest!

One of my favorite things about Stitch Fix is the style quiz when you first sign up. They give you the opportunity to walk through every category and think about your needs in a logical way. The style quiz also asked about parts of my body I want to flaunt vs ones I would prefer to stay modest. Each fix is then personalized to your body type and fit. I would say that after my fit is seriously spot on with every piece my stylist sends. Looking through my current collection, I realized I had too many work outfits I never wore and not nearly enough casual, comfy things that could take me from day to night. My stylist then sent silky rompers to be dressed up or down, maxi dresses that I can chill or dance in. I also opted to receive accessories since my go to purses are over 7 years old.

2.     Style Shuffle

Recently Stitch Fix added a fun “Style Shuffle” voting system to further define your fix after the initial evaluation. It shows images of clothing pieces and asks for a vote by using thumb up or down. It’s like a fun visual personality quiz. Every time I schedule the next fix, I play this game and vote on 10-15 items so they can refine my style. When some of the pieces I vote yes on lands in my future fixes, it makes for a pleasant surprise.

3.     Communication is key!

When you schedule your fix, there is a whole list of items you can request. You can prioritize or say to never send certain items. At the end of the form, you can request for special events, vacations or ask your stylist to hunt down something for you. My favorite unexpected pieces have come this way! I asked for boho stripe tops and my stylist sent a tie front chambray top I would have never thought to try on. It’s now to GO TO top! The fit is so beautiful and flattering, I get compliments every time I wear it. Same goes for this floral print chiffon dress. I asked for flow transition pieces and my stylist picked out a long sleeve bohemian printed dress. The fabric is stunning and I feel so at ease in it. I love that it can be paired with flats or boots for fall transition too!

For me, Stitch Fix really takes the guess work out of shopping. I love being surprised by my stylist’s choices. It’s like having your best friend, who knows you like the back of her hand send you a gift every month. I actually found I’ve spent less money on cloths and am able to be more conscious with my purchases. With Stitch Fix, I only pay for what I like, in my price range. Gone are the days of “get it because it’s on clearance” mentality. I am so excited to continue to build my fall capsule wardrobe with Stitch Fix. Take your style quiz here
